West Winds Brass

West Winds was formed in May of 1996 as a brass quintet, comprising two trumpets, French horn, trombone and tuba. The members of the ensemble all started their brass playing with local brass bands and continue to keep the brass tradition alive, as well as performing with the Galway Concert Orchestra and local jazz bands. Performing a varied repertoire, ranging from music of the sixteenth century right up to popular music of today, the quintet aim to develop and promote ensemble brass playing in the most entertaining manner. Performances to date include lunchtime concerts, the Galway Early Music Festival, Christmas concerts jointly hosted with Tin Pan Alley, Christmas carol services, Sunday morning masses throughout the city and guest appearances with the Galway Youth and Concert orchestras. The quintet performed most recently in the 1999 Galway Arts Festival parade.
