The Shantalla Singers

The Shantalla Singers was founded early in 1994 under Dr. Michael Shields as a small vocal ensemble specialising in early music. Since the end of 1997 the group has been directed by Darina McCarthy. Varying between seven and ten members, the ensemble sings early and Renaissance repertoire in authentic style with no more than one or two voices to a part, resulting in great suppleness of tone and purity of line. The group makes several public appearances each year, both liturgical and concert; it is a regular participant in the Galway Early Music Festival, and last year saw a unique performance of the complete Missa Papæ Marcelli by Palestrina. This is the Shantalla Singers' second appearance in the Galway Cathedral Recitals.
