Una Russell

Una Russell is from Dundalk, Ireland. She studied organ in Dublin with William S. Greig at the College of Music (now Conservatory of Music and Drama) and later with Professor Stanislas Deriemaker at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Music in Antwerp: here she was awarded a Premier Prix and on the strength of her results the additional Firmin Swinnen and J. S. Callaerts prizes. She has played extensively in Ireland and Europe including solo performances in international series in Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent Cathedrals. In 2005 she performed with the Kanai Clarinet Choir in Osaka Shin Ai College, Japan. She has recently returned from performances with this ensemble in Belgium. She has broadcast on RTÉ, BBC Radio Ulster and frequently on Lyric FM. Una is an honours music graduate of University College Dublin and holds a Master's degree in Renaissance music from the Queen’s University, Belfast. She also has considerable experience as a choral accompanist and has performed in that capacity at many venues both at home and abroad, including performances in Moscow and Italy. She features as accompanist to the Lassus Scholars on their CDs Sing Choirs of Angels and Wedding Memories from Ireland. Una succeeded the Belgian born Organist Michael Van Dessel as Organist and Choir director at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dundalk, a post she held for a number of years. She now lives in Dublin where she is a lecturer in organ and academic studies at the Dublin Institute of Technology's Conservatory of Music and Drama. She has a special interest in the classical French school of organ composition.
