Ignace MichielsBorn in 1963 in Bruges, Ignace Michiels is one of the leading Belgian organists of his generation. He studied at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, graduating with the Laureatdiploma in 1986, and the Masterdiploma from Brussels and Ghent in 1990. Several scholarships and international awards followed, and he later distinguished himself by being the first Belgian organist to win the Prix d'Exéllence and the Prix de Virtuosité of the Paris Conservatoire under Odile Pierre. His artistic development continued in the Dallas, in the USA, where he studied with Robert Anderson. Since 1990 he has been Titular Organist of the cathedral in Bruges. He has given performances in organ festivals in Belgium and Europe, and has been a guest in many cathedrals and concert halls. He has a special affection for the symphonic repertoire of the French and German organ schools. In addition to his concert career, Ignace Michiels is conductor of Cantores, the most famous oratorio choir in Belgium.
