Thursday 24 August 2000 at 8.00 pm Darina McCarthyDarina McCarthy was born in Galway and grew up in the Gaeltacht village of Barna. She now lives in Galway city and works as a legal executive. Although she has few formal musical qualifications, she studied for a time under Miss Mary Dale, former organist and choir director at Galway Cathedral, and now studies under Raymond O'Donnell, the present Cathedral organist and choirmaster. Darina has a keen interest in vocal music of the Renaissance, and is a member of Galway Cathedral Choir and Cois Cladaigh Chamber Choir. She has been part of the Galway Cathedral Recitals committee for six years and says she shamelessly used her connections to request her first opportunity to play for her friends and family! |
