Li Lu, cello

Originally from Zhengzhou in central China, Li Lu started learning the cello at the age of five. In 1989 at the age of nine, she became a student of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She continued her studies at the Wuhan Conservatory of Music, from where she graduated in 2002, and with Chu-Yi Bing at the Conservatory of Music in Beijing from 2004-2005. In 2006 she won a scholarship to attend the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Li Lu has released her first CD in Ireland on the Ritan record label; entitled Believe, it features her own compositions as well as works by Maurice Ravel and Astor Piazzola. Later this year she makes her debut at the National Concert Hall in Dublin accompanied by the classical guitarist John Feely. Li Lu has been the recipient of many awards and prizes; she is in great international demand as a recitalist and chamber music player and performs in festivals throughout Asia and Europe. This concert is her first appearance in Ireland. Li Lu is based in Beijing.
