Kansai Clarinet Society
directed by Hideaki Iwai
Kansai
Clarinet Society was founded in 1992 by Hideaki Iwai, a professional
clarinetist who studied music at Osaka University of Education and at
the Royal Flemish Academy of Music in Antwerp. It consists of around 50
members, most of them the students or the graduates of Osaka University
of Arts or Osaka Shin-Ai College. As well as giving concerts domestically
in Japan, the Clarinet Choir has performed around the world. Its repertoire
covers from classical music, jazz, folksong and contemporary pieces. In
addition to its own concert activities, Kansai Clarinet Society takes
part in international musical exchanges involving prominent musicians
who have visited Japan to give concerts and master classes in various
cities. More recently, the Society has been extending its relationship
with other orchestras, holding joint concerts with domestic and foreign
ensembles.
