Gerard GillenGerard Gillen is widely regarded as one of Ireland's leading church and concert organists. A First Class Honours graduate of University College, Dublin, Oxford University and the Royal Conservatoire of Music, Antwerp, Professor Gillen has an international reputation as an organ recitalist, has given over 700 recitals throughout Europe and America, and has sat on competition juries in Oxford, Ann Arbor, London and Dublin. He was founder-chairman of the Dublin International Organ & Choral Festival. In 1984 he was conferred with a knighthood of St Gregory (KSG) by the Vatican. In 1976 he was appointed Titular Organist of Dublin’s Pro-Cathedral and in 1985 he was appointed Professor of Music at NUI Maynooth. In December 1996 he was nominated the classical winner on Ireland's National Entertainment Awards and was the first organist to be so honoured. |
