Thursday 20 August 1997 at 8.00 pm Barbara DaggBarbara Dagg was born in Dublin and studied organ first with Peter Sweeney and Gerard Gillen. After graduating in music from Trinity College and aided by a German government scholarship, she undertook further studies with Ludwig Doerr and Almut Rössler, gaining a first-class performer's diploma in organ at the Freiburg Musikhochschule in 1984, and a first-class degree in church music at the Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf in 1989. She was Assistant Organist at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, from 1992 to 1995, and concurrently from 1993 up to the present she has held the post of Assistant Sub Organist at St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, where in 1995/96 she also became founder/director of St Patrick’s Cathedral Girls' Choir. Having taught mainly at St Patrick's Cathedral Schools, she recently joined the staff of the DIT Conservatory of Music & Drama in Dublin. This summer marks her farewell to church music after 25 years’ service, as she embarks on a musical career more concentrated on solo and ensemble performance, playing organ, harpsichord and piano. Barbara Dagg has given recitals at many venues in Ireland, in Germany and in England, including the prestigious Cambridge Summer Recials series. |
