Deirdre Benians

From Kilrush, Co. Clare, Deirdre Benians (née Comerford) graduated from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, in 1997 with a first class in organ performance while studying with Professor Gerard Gillen. She subsequently studied with Mark Duley at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, and most recently with Colm Carey at HM Tower of London. She was appointed Organ Scholar of Chichester Cathedral in September 2000 and spent an active year accompanying the Cathedral Choir at daily services, and also at some major festivals, including the Southern Cathedral Festival. She was an overall finalist in the RTÉ Millennium Musician of the Future Competition and last year was third prize winner at the Dublin International Organ Competion.
